Jian Xu

I am currently a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure(OCI). Before joining Oracle, I obtained my PhD degree in Computer Science at Stony Brook University where my advisor was Prof.Aruna Balasubramanian in NetSys lab. Prior to joining Stony Brook, I got my Bachelor in Software Engineering at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) I also worked at Baidu for a couple of years as a software engineer.

During my PhD, my major research interest was in mobile, wearable and smart home systems. I improved those systems in terms of development, performance, usability, and accessibility, by applying I/O virtualization techniques. I worked on the kernel as well as layers of Android mobiles and wearables.

My works have been published in conferences like ACM MobiCom, ACM UIST, and ACM ASSETS. At ASSETS, our paper was nominated for Best Paper. Most of these works have been done mostly in collaboration with people knowledgeable in either Operating Systems or Human-Computer Interaction(HCI).
